Halls & Stairways

A hallway or a staircase can be the first impression of a household’s interior, and upon entering you are welcomed by a bespoke made and beautifully designed stairwell or a hallway. These features set the tone of the rest of your home, so they are an important hallmark of any space. There is such a wide variety and choice of halls and stairways, it’s completely down to personal taste whether you prefer a classical or contemporary design, with a plethora of available materials whether it be solid wood, stone, metal or glass. Attention to detail can be intertwined in the design of the handrail (such as leather wrapped) or balustrading of various shapes and sizes. Finishes could be hard wax oil, lacquer, French polished, shabby-chic, or high gloss, again the choices are plentiful, and here at Kredenza Ltd we pride ourselves in being able to offer them all. Our team of structural engineers and experts will help guide your dream staircase and hallway project from design to installation. All our stairs are built according to building and safety regulations and approved by a building inspector. We do advise you to have a detailed drawing (which we can offer as a service) prior to commencement of manufacture, as stairs are such a vital part of your home, with an average lifespan of a staircase is over 50 years. Here at Kredenza Ltd our motto is “engineered to function, built to last” and so you can enjoy.

HALL

Palace Garden Terrace

Entrance hall with gorgeous traditional bespoke made marble borders, marbled tiles with inserts in every corner, leading to a traditional open stringer staircase, with metal newel post and traditionally turned wooden banisters. Finished in French polished mahogany handrail.

Bishops Avenue

This grand house of 27,000 sq ft was built in 1910 by Henry Victor Ashley and Francis Winton Newman for William Park Lyle. The Edwardian building, with its notable arts and crafts design details, was restored to its former glory by the Kredenza Ltd team.

Penthouse

This penthouse with two entrances over two floors has contemporary concrete stairs clad with stone, and features Stanley steel banisters, and a handrail partially wrapped with leather. The wall has recessed timber with a (dummy) stringer and we fitted a bespoke made cloak cupboard under the stairs for maximum use of this space. PU spray painted in a satin finish.

Hampstead Heath

Classical entrance hall leading to curved and shaped wall, with quarter sawn timber floor. We salvaged the existing stairs, and matched and fitted any new components. Made from a combination of traditional and contemporary methods, we used Birch plywood for stringers with solid oak lipping to top and bottom and then all layered over to book match the quarter sawn Oak veneer. The panels above the wall stringers were hand veneered panelling and three dimensional so that they follow the shape of wall. All was stained and French polished. The complete stairs and wall panels were first built in our workshop, then transported and fitted on site in this beautiful house.

Hampstead property

Hampstead property which we developed for a client that wished to have a traditional looking staircase made of rustic English Oak with fluted newel posts, barley twisted banisters and the first two steps to be rounded. These stairs are the main view and feature from the double doored entrance of this home. All made of solid English Oak and French polished.

Hill street

Hill street contemporary penthouse with bespoke “made to measure” entrance, made from Walnut veneered solid door (3 Banham high security locks) and with solid Walnut architrave, all made and sprayed in our workshop, delivered and secretly fitted in situ. Floor panels were designed by the Project Architect, and fitted over under floor heating. We purchased the floor panels from the Natural Wood Flooring Company, machined them to the required design, stained and pre-finished them in our workshop, and then delivered and fitted them on site. All carried out by the Kredenza Ltd crew. On the right hand side you are greeted by a fitted contemporary open bookcase unit made from a combination of solid Walnut and L-shaped brass which our electroplaters transformed to give that bronze look. Each unit (or box) was rebated to accommodate the solid -brass profiles, which were mitred and all assembled and checked prior to delivery and fitted in our clients’ lovely home.

Berkeley Square

A contemporary commercial property over several floors, the client asked us to take the reins on this project and create a staircase that had the capacity to hold up to 300 people at the same time. They requested we use large solid quarter sawn English Oak floor planks, and to create the “sunray” look on the landing, which meant no cross grain of the wood would be visible. Another request was to have solid wall balustrades on either side of the stringer and on top of the wall to have a solid Oak handrail. The solid wall was MR MDF panels, sprayed with PU Lacquer to the requested colour and fitted with secret fixings. The main structure of the stairs is solid steel which we proudly designed and had checked and approved by our structural engineer. We fully clad this staircase in our 20,000 sq ft workshop, dismantled into sections, delivered and craned into position. This whole project was designed, engineered, manufactured and fitted by the Kredenza Ltd team, and fully accepted by our client, a large building contractors company.

Notting Hill Gate

Stunning entrance with curved top traditional box sash window and flower patterned wall paper in this vibrant Victorian property in the heart of Old London.

Chelsea

Very nicely balanced contemporary and traditional entrance hall with landing leading to floors above and below. The entrance is covered with Oak boards over underfloor heating with seamless joints to the stone floor in the kitchen and staircases. The floor above, leading to the mezzanine and office, holds a made-to-measure bespoke built staircase (with a metal floating frame) clad with Plywood and timber for flooring. All made and assembled in our workshop first and then clad in situ once the metal manufacturers installed the frame. Solid walls on open or cut stringer finished with solid oak handrail which has shadow gaps on either side to escape the “butt” joint. Metal banisters are fixed to the side wall.
